about

In the course of the year and a half or so since I approached Fugue State to make this split, so many things have happened; our musical friendship has grown and blossomed, both of us have released various other projects, and we've even begun an elektro-industrial project together (we are called "Monica Devertebre" - stay tuned!!). But this split stands out in my mind from a time of great growth and creativity because though short, it captures a vibrant snapshot of that moment. A moment of dynamic musical experimentation, new friendships, and exciting new paths. We hope that you will share this moment with us.

"I feel like if you're one of those "I don't like electronic music" type of music people this could be the split to win even you over. Yes, you." - raisedbygypsies.blogspot.com/2018/05/cassette-review-mrs-dink-fugue-state.html

"Hurry up collectors of experimental trance inducing dance music! There is only one copy of this tape left, one that just feels like it’s the doggy in the window with those irresistible eyes that looks at you in the hope that you will not walk on, will stop your journey, stare at it and than immediately decide to go in and take it home.
Okay, it’s one tape but let’s say it got two heads! A dog with two heads is even more irresistible than one with one head! And so it is with tapes too!
First one belongs to Mrs Dink who starts the a side of this cassette with something she named Cerulean Blue. I have no idea what that means other than that it means that it is music done by Mrs dink and that it is dark and exciting. Sounding very high profile in the techno surroundings, having a coolness over it that might just be enough to power up an entire refrigerator and perhaps heat up an severely broken oven. It contains a sample of an old fashioned voice repeating the track title, which is always handy as it makes sure that you will remember how this cool music is called. Perfect for if you are on some substances that trouble your memory section.
The other head of the doggy in the window belongs to Fugue State who also seems to to deliver something blue. In this case it’s ‘blue lights’ and is a true to the point dance floor filler. There is seemingly no niceness about it and that seems to be the kind of thing that we sometimes are in dire need for; something nasty. A dog that can bite when needed! One that keeps burglars away! Music wise it got the right instant kick on repeat, nasty synth sounds and the collaboration of ticking high hats and a snare that won’t bow for anyone.
I feel if it wasn’t so short it would be the ideal hit moment at all those cyber rave parties in Goa, not because it sounds anything than the usual stuff that the deejays would spin there BUT just because it doesn’t sound anything like those continuing trance tracks that will go on for hours, the ones that make you question your sanity, the ones that make you wonder if you had lost track of time, if the deejay had been spinning the same tune forever or that the drugs had simply mashed you or the music provider up into a delirious blur …
In any case i bet if the blue lights by Fugue State or the Red Button tune (which the other side of the tape starts with) would make an appearance on such a party, it would probably be a nice moment for anyone’s sane senses! It certainly has that effective trancelike progression but has clearly a beginning, a middle part and an ending; one that makes you feel happy and relieved that somehow some music producers didn’t fall into a ten hour loop of train wreck techno.
The last part of the tape (or let’s say it’s the tail of the cute two headed irresistible doggy) is reserved for another Mrs Dink tune. This one fits the scenery and vibe of Fugue State, but also seems to have gone for some kind of compromise that would make the overlap to appeal to those tripped out trance deejays who are stuck somewhere deep in the Indian Ocean and the generally more kind hearted ambience generation that have been in need for a steady beat and a nice massage in music form.
Mrs Dink’s ‘Seeing Red (I’m sorry) brings these worlds nicely together & to make it easy to be mixed in the track comes in a fairly lengthy length that even beginning (or heavily doped up!) deejays would be able to sneak into their sets. In any case the tunes by Mrs Dink and Fugue State are perfect material to bring back some sanity onto the 24/7 techno trance show! Get that doggy out of the window before someone less fortunate would snap it away!" - YIKIS yeahiknowitsucks.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/mrs-dink-fugue-state-split/
